How do I go about finding a wedding officiant that will perform for free as long as we do counseling?
Rachel S asked:
I live in the Oklahoma City area and I know that some priests or preachers will marry you free of charge as long as you get marriage counseling from them, but have no idea who.

try and find a connection- does any of your family or friends close or know a pastor that would do this?

It’s actually very easy to get a very cheap officiant (usually about $25). Just ask a friend or family member to do it and they simply fill out the one-day form (allowing them to marry you specifically on that day) through your local city hall and wah lah…you have an officiant. This is only legal for someone to do one wedding one time a year.

Most pastors will, if you already go to their church. Ask around. No one here can say for sure, even for their own pastor.
If you live in Oklahoma I’d recommend pastor Craig Groeshell, he’s the pastor for Lifechurch (lifechurch.tv). Based out of OKC. He’s a pretty busy guy though so maybe talk to him early?

excuse me but you can’t fork over a few bucks for someone to perform your wedding ceremony?? Boo to you.

When you find that out, clue me in ’cause I’ve never heard of that.
My pastor charges $250 and that includes the counseling sessions. I’ve heard of some churches will significantly lower the fees if you are an active member of the church, but not any that will make them zero.
