how to get into holistic nutrition counseling without going through a hokey sounding online school?

KLJ08 asked:

I have a bachelor’s in nutrition, about 5 years in various human services jobs and an interest in holistic stuff. I want to use my interests and talents in some kind of fun job. I was thinking of doing holistic nutrition counseling but a lot of the schools I find for that seem pretty hokey and aren’t accreditted universities or anything. Any suggestions?

a hokey career requires a hokey school

if you already have a B.S or B.A you already have everything you need.
And are more qualified than most…

Basically it comes down to how you decide to counsel clients – the paradigm you use….thats all.

Holistic nutrition? What’s that about, eating crystals?

Surely all good nutrition is about maintaining a balanced diet with a variety foods from each of the five major food groups.

After a little test of typing ‘holistic nutrition counseling’ into google and following a few links that caught my eye I have discovered something- some holistic nutrition counselors that I have found don’t claim to have a special related degree, but seem to be making a living out of it.

    -has a BA in education.

-One of the founders doesn’t even claim to have schooling

I would suggest trying to network with a few people who do this sort of thing for a living and maybe even try a retreat or two to make some connections. The more people you contact that actually do this for a living the better chance of finding what works for you. Most sites I have found have contact links and I’d be willing to bet that you’d get a few responses by dropping a quick line to them. I think you maybe further ahead in this pursuit then you might think. Good Luck!
