Do I have to pay for counseling sessions if refered by Dr?

asked:
I am in Canada and I am on sick leave (stress leave) for 3 & a half months, until January. My doctor wants me to go to counseling and is going to refer me to someone in my area to go to. Will my insurance cover this? I am with manulife. I can’t afford to have to pay for it but since it is being requested by my doctor does this mean I don’t have to pay? I have never been to counseling before.

Anything your doctor requests, you still have to pay for. Get clear on why he wants you to get counseling so you know it is worth it. Some doctors just demand something you don’t need just to milk for money. You can surely find a cheap therapist at any rate.
