What do I need to Major in to go for Medical Counseling?

I want to go to school for medical counseling, but I’m not quite sure what to major in or where to find information on this subject. I want to deal with cancer patients. I was told today that I would need to go to grad school to get my Masters in psychology. Is that true? Please help!
