How/ where do you get work experience for Psychology/ Counseling?

mochi asked:

I’m about to get a B.A next year in Psychology, and I might apply for grad school in the future to earn a MS degree in Counseling. One problem I’m having is finding any kind of work experience in that field and would like to work before/ during grad school. So far I’ve only worked as a tutor, packaging person, and a receptionist. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  1. DON'T EAT THE FISH Says:

If no one will hire you to work for .50 an hour, work for .25
Or you could just volunteer for a crisis call center … right

  2. Extra Blue Note Says:

    rape or suicide hot line
school counseling for junior high or high school
counseling helper at a rehab center

You should be going into an internship for your senior seminar. Do your best there and often they’ll hire you. Other than that, try volunteering at different mental health clinics as anything they’ll take you for…trust me, they always need help in some department.

Have you tired thinking of being a counselor in school? I’m sure there are a lot of them open due to the fact that teenagers are hitting the point where they are depressed or emotional

So I’m assuming.. Counselor at school?
