How do I tell my mom that I want counseling?

Brianna asked:

And possibly anti-depressants? My mom has them and goes to counseling like once a month. I’ve had these problems for a longggg time, I’ve just been in denial and thought I could deal with it all on my own. Well, I’m 17 and guess what, it hasn’t went away yet. Even when I’m happy I don’t smile. I know my life is not bad, but I don’t feel that way. And I’m a bit anti-social. So how do I tell her, because I’m afraid?

Just start crying. Its a great trick that most female do to get what they want and it comes with a very high success rate. But seriously just talk to her or a teacher or a doctor.

I have literally just told my mom the same thing but that did not go well… Just talk to her about how you feel and hope that she gets the message, and if she doesn’t, just keep talking and hopefully she will understand :) Good luck x

Just tell it like it is.Also eat some cocoa rich chocolate to surpress your anxiety. It will give you the courage to tell your mom about your depression.

Cocoa rich chocolate.Cocoa contains natural substances that reduce stress and pain and create a feeling of pleasure in your brain and increase your brain activity. How long effects last depends on how much you consume.Only a few pieces of high cocoa chocolate reduces your pain, anxiety or stress for most if not all day.Lindt exellence is my recomendation. The best chocolate you can buy and affordable to most people. You can find it in any store with large selection of items. The applications of cocoa are very wide ranging from consuming it before a dentist appointment to reduce pain and fear from the drill. It is very effective.

Also i do not recommend drugs for “treating”your depression.Drugs cannot cure depression. They only hide it for a short time and can cause harmful side effects not to mention that a tollerance to the substance can develop so you feel the need to take more drugs to experience the same effect.

Omega 3 fatty acids are the best anti depressants and they are natural. There is no better one.You will never cure your depression if you do not improve your dietary habits.

Take two table spoons of grinded flaxseed[rich with omega 3 and cheap]a day[with a glass of water] and in a few months you will start to notice significant improvement in your mental health[you will become more psychologically stable, among other things].Chew thoroughly to extract the maximum amount of omega 3 fatty acids.Coffe grinders i no longer recommend because much is lost without chewing the food before swalowing.Whole seeds cannot be digested by the hydrochloric acid in our stomach only grinded seeds.

Flax is the best source of ALA omega 3 fatty acid which our body converts to more important fatty acids called DHA and EPA.For the efficient conversion to take place, foods containing a large amount of the following nutrients must be consumed along with the flaxseed:C,B3,B6 [vitamins],zink and Magnesium [minerals].I recommend 3 table spoons of flax with 100 grams[or more if to your liking] of almonds and/or 250g of green peas,1 kiwi every day.[do not take more then 3 table spoons of flax because large amounts can cause intestinal gases which can cause abdominal pain and/or constipation. If three spoons causes abdominal discomfort lower the dosage to 2 table spoons of grinded flax and elevate it to 3 table spoons after your body adapts to high fiber content].

Explain to your mum all your concerns you may have about your problem and she will probably tell you were to go from there! Good luck =] x

  6. Dr. M.G. Lazarus Says:

Since counseling is not a new concept to your mom there is no need for you to worry about telling her. She will perfectly understand and would support you as she knows the benefit of taking counseling.

You have to consider your mental health as a priority. When you feel that you are depressed it is very important that you seek help without delay.

You don’t need to feel that you are anti-social because anti-social people won’t accept that they are anti-social in the first place! Please be strong and ask your mom to arrange an appointment with a counselor. Another possibility is taking online counseling for which you need not worry about asking your mom to arrange. You are only a few clicks away from an online therapist. All the Best!
