I am 40 years old and want to go to school online or otherwise to get a counseling degree of some sort. I have no prior college credits. What would the quickest route be to get a degree that would actually be useful for getting a job counseling and providing therapy for people? When I look at information online it just makes my head spin and I’m really not sure where to start! Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!

I’m currently @ a community college.. I’m looking into the UC system.. I’m due to transfer summer of 2010.. I want to make sure I’m on the right track as far as the courses I’ve taken, gpa, community service, etc.. I’m looking into UCLA, UC Irvine and UC Riverside..

What steps would I have to take for a counseling appointment with someone at the UC system being from a community college? Who would I contact?

First I thought Mental Health Counseling, but it’s not very flexible as far as jobs go. Then I thought Social Work, very flexible, but not really what I want to do. Are there anymore other Master’s degree that is flexible, but deals with counseling people?
